Title: Black Cockatoos in Spring
Spring in the mountains brings a completely different energy to the bush—everything feels alive, fresh, and moving. This large-scale piece was inspired by that seasonal shift, specifically the moments when the Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoos arrive to feed among the blossoming banksias.
I wanted the background to feel like a tapestry of new growth, using vertical rhythms of soft greens, creams, and warm ochres to mimic the texture of the bushland. The pale, intricate shapes of the banksia flowers frame the birds, contrasting their bold black silhouettes and bright yellow cheek patches. For me, this painting captures a sense of dialogue, abundance, and the joy of a mountain spring.
